Pretty Purse

The easy way to make a beautiful purse - the panels are created in the hoop for perfect stitching and alignment every time!  This process allows for purses that are larger than the hoop.

Detailed instructions for every step of the process are included. This is not an in the hoop (ITH) project - a sewing machine is required to complete the purse.

It is created by first stitching the flap (in the hoop); then the back piece is created in the hoop and the flap is attached during this process; and then the front piece is done in the 3rd (final) hooping.  When the front and back are finished, sew a seam around the sides and bottom and do the same for the lining piece. Then choose your strap or handle style and sew them (instructions are included) or use webbing for a no-sew handle, and sew the purse to the lining around the top.  Turn it right side out, topstitch around the top, and the purse is complete!

Materials needed:

  • cotton fabric (coordinating fat quarters work great)
  • fusible fleece such as Pellon 987F (about 20" x 26")
  • 6" piece of ribbon and a snap set (kam, halo and pearl snaps work great)
  • purse hardware is optional, depending on which handle/strap style you choose
  • optional woven fusible interfacing such as Pellon Shapeflex (SF101)

Each purse features a roomy inside with a padded lining, a front pocket under the flap and a back pocket that snaps.  You can also create a lining piece with a slip pocket in the hoop.  The flap has a fussy-cut circle applique to feature a pretty fabric image.

The 5x7 hoop creates a purse that is 9" wide by 6.5" tall and the 6x10 hoop creates a purse that is 11.5" wide by 8.5" tall.

Please note that this is a machine embroidery project - both an embroidery machine and a sewing machine are required to complete this project.
